As this may not sound exciting to most people... I have been in a total "throw all the shit out!" mood this morning! I want to start the New Year off right with a really clean house!
I have laundry in both the washer and dryer...
The dishwasher is running with another load waiting for it's turn...
I am getting the vacuum primed and ready...
My ammo of cleaning supplies are being gathered to battle the dust / grime / mold / mildew (okay... my house isn't that dirty... but I have all the necessary cleaning weapons to tackle anything I may come up against)
The refrigerator will be evacuated for a new healthier choices...
Recycling will be gathered up to go to it's prospective recycling center (yes... I have to take some items one place and some another... but it's all worth it to help Mother Earth)
It should be a very productive day... now if I could only get the rest of my family to pitch in!

Holiday Wishes to all!
As the commotion of the holidays has caused me to neglect my blog recently, I wanted to just wish everyone a wonderful holiday (whichever ones you choose to celebrate) and a prosperous New Year (couldn't we all use that?)
My family has torn through all the gifts... the Choreg dough rising in the oven just doesn't seem to be working out right (my Dad might just have to settle with pilaf as the only Armenian food he gets this Christmas)... and hubby is taking a nap already. As my parents are coming by, I am trying to clean up the house as much as possible, but the kids are making more messes than I can keep up with... I think i'll give up and grab a hot cup of coffee and plop on the couch for a while!
Happy Holidays everyone!

snow day... is it really worth it?
Here in Michigan, our local news is infamous for predicting huge snow storms that really don't pan out. Breaking news... prepare for the worst... and we would get an inch of snow (now, in some states, this is breaking news, but here in MI, it's nothing!)
So, when my alarm went off this morning at 6a, there was already a new 5" of drifting snow, with more coming down fast, I was a bit surprised. All of the local schools were closed. An official "Snow Day". The kids were so excited to start their holiday break a day early.
My boss called me last night and said that I could work from home today (he is so awesome) which I thought was a great idea... until...
- I have had to yell at the kids numerous times to get away from my computer (they are both famous for closing out a program and losing all the work I have done)
- I have had to let the dog in and out of the back yard about 100 times already (he loves the snow, but only for so long)
- my hubby asked me to make coffee... and then breakfast...
I finally sent the kids upstairs with promises that we would go sled later this afternoon, and hubby just left to go run some errands and get us lunch. I now get to sit peacefully at my computer with a hot cup of black coffee and get to work!

gotta love a Vacation Day!
I took a Vacation Day! Work has been hectic (but very rewarding) but I finally blocked out my calendar (even canceled two meetings!) and took a day off just for myself!
I made an appointment at my salon and got my hair done, and eye brows waxed (both are looking so much better now!), I caught the tail-end of a mini-Christmas concert at my son's school (my daughter's school was performing), and I am now going to have lunch with my hubby!
Confession... I did check my work emails. There were 38 from just this morning... but I swear I only answered the really urgent ones (and a few to some high-level directors that I need to make sure I keep in good graces with... the only way to move up around there!!!)
Tonight I am taking the kids to a local "moon bounce" place and out to dinner... then a few glasses of wine and a good movie!
I should really take vacation days more often!

where the hell have I been?
Yes, it has been a while since I posted anything, but things have been quite hectic. As everyone has the same 24 hours in the day, I really have no excuse on being too busy to get things done, but it sure seems like some of my 24 hours has been misplaced with my Christmas cards that were bought at a deep discount after the New Year.
Work... keeping me very busy
Kids... keeping me just as busy (but this is the last week of school before the holiday break so things should slow down, I hope)
Hubby... well, he keeps starting projects and spending money on things we really don't need (like a mini fridge for our basement that sits under the new work bench he built to put his new circular saw on. Don't get me started...
Tonight I decided to finally dig out the lights for the Christmas tree, and as I tested them... untangled them... strung them on the tree... and plugged them in...
Yes, you guessed it... half of the string didn't light up!
So, I then took them all off... thew them in the garbage... found some more lights in the corner of the basement (obviously thrown there while hubby was building the work bench)... untangled those... tested them... strung them on the tree... and...
THE DAMN THINGS DIDN'T LIGHT UP!!!!!
About this time, I was ready to throw the tree out on the front lawn (the kids were in bed so I could actually blame it on the Grinch or a random burglar), but instead I decided to make myself a cocktail... examine the lights... replace one of the fuses... and luckily for everyone they finally worked.
Happy Holidays... damn it!!!

the pros and cons to High School flashbacks...
I will start with a confession... I have become addicted to Facebook. Not that I have a ton of spare time to peruse the site looking for people to be my friend (I do have a lot of my own friends... honestly!) but one night a few months ago I was at dinner with some friends (see... friends!) that I use to work with, and the topic of Facebook had come up. I had "dabbled" in MySpace, but never really got into it. So, the next night I logged on and set up my page and found some people I know to be "my friend".
(One thing I would like to say here is that I probably would have gotten right on Facebook that night after I got home from the dinner, but I have learned that many drinks and the Internet do not mix for me. I am not a "drunk dialer" but a "drunk emailer". I have sent many an email to people that make no sense when read sober...)
Besides family and some people I work(ed) with, most of my friends on Facebook are people I knew from High School. I don't remember the names of many people I went to college with (it was a short period of time... and again, there's the drinking thing...)
A couple of these friends have been posting old pics from many, many years ago... parties, school functions, graduation, more parties... it's fun to remember some of those times (some more than others) but also bittersweet as these flashbacks start to make me feel old... really old...
In the end, I think I am going to drag out the old photo albums and see what incriminating photos I can dig up... this should be fun!

results from the weekend "to do" list...
I accomplished #'s 1, 2, 4, and 7. Part of 3, and part of 9... (and I didn't have one glass of wine all weekend! What's up with that???) The cold winter weather is really slowing me down (and lots of work coming home with me on the weekends may also have something to do with it).

my "to do" list for this weekend...
As I am feeling much better (that green tea / vitamin C cocktail must have kicked the flu before it ever really got me) I have a huge "to do" list for this weekend.
1) take my son to Cub Scouts
2) put up Christmas decorations (no tree yet, but I need to get the lights up outside)
3) clean the basement, as my hubby is planning on building a work bench down there
4) grocery shopping
5) the usual laundry / dishes / vacuuming
6) help my daughter with her school project
7) gather up old clothes for Purple Heart (coming on Monday)
8) start addressing Christmas Cards
9) try to do some gift shopping... only a few things have been purchased so far, with lots more to do!
Plus... I have two major projects that I am working on that I probably need to dedicate some time to before Monday.
So much to do... so little time!

I think I am catching the flu or something...
throat hurts...
headache...
chills...
neck aches...
very tired...
I just popped a bunch of Vitamin C and I'm making myself some organic decaf green tea and heading up stairs to bed. Of course I also have two big meetings tomorrow, so calling in sick is not an option. I hate the "kids bringing home germs from school" season.
